Gator Da Don Reality Releases New Music Video “I’m Still Me”
Youngstown, Ohio, has a history that rarely makes its way into polished rap narratives. For Gator Da Don, that history is personal. His new album, I’m Still Me, draws from poverty, incarceration, family and survival.
He grew up during an era shaped by the crack epidemic, turf conflicts and economic hardship. On “Story to Tell,” he recalls that reality without softening its edges.
“My momma was broke and my daddy was smokin’,” he raps. “That’s life in the Kimmel Brook Projects.”
Music entered Gator’s life early. He recorded his first song, “Ruthless,” at 15. However, the demands of providing for his family redirected his path.
Two prison sentences followed. He spent seven years incarcerated during one term and nine years during another. The name Gator Da Don emerged behind prison walls. “Gator” came from his reputation for snapping against anyone who challenged him lyrically.
Family remained central throughout those years. On “Now You See Me,” he reflects on the decisions that cost him his freedom.
“My people need me,” he raps. “I ain’t never been a slouch.”
After his release, Gator focused on building ownership. He launched Boss Up or Bow Down LLC while pursuing music, real estate and residential interior design. His sound also rejects rap’s current reliance on heavy Auto-Tune. Instead, Gator emphasizes lyrics, melodies and hard-hitting production.
Ohio music executive Quincy “Big Heff” Taylor sees something bigger.
“Ohio has a lot of talent,” Taylor said. “Gator Da Don is Youngstown, and I wanna show the world his talent.”
The title track, “I’m Still Me,” captures the rapper’s perspective. “I’m a blessing to these streets,” he raps. “Never told on a soul, so my hand good.”
Now, Gator is building toward a larger audience. His 2026 breakout includes his debut album, a viral appearance on The Debut and an expanding catalog. With more than 35 songs already recorded, Gator Da Don is not looking backward. He is using everything he survived to define what comes next.
