Scar Lip Is Channeling DMX: Her “Dead To Me” Performance Has the Internet Talking

The Bronx is barking again.

Scar Lip’s outdoor performance of “Dead To Me” is the clip moving across timelines right now — the 2024 XXL Freshman posted up in front of a brick building, rapping straight into the camera with the kind of bark-and-snarl delivery that made a whole generation of fans think of one name: DMX.

ITSBIZKIT put the question to X on Friday: “Scar Lip really channeling DMX on this one 😤🔥 ‘Dead to me’ the energy is CRAZY. Female DMX??” The post has been running ever since — 56.8K views, close to 1,000 likes and hundreds of replies as of Saturday morning, with fans split between crowning her and protecting the comparison.

The performance itself is pure Scar Lip. No stage, no lights — just her, a seated co-sign on a crate beside her, and bars delivered like she’s arguing with the camera. “The struggle taught me how to fish,” she raps early in the clip, before it builds into the repeated “dead to me” refrain that closes it out. The whole thing runs about a minute and a half and never lets up.

The DMX comparison is not new for her. The Bronx native — born Sierra Lewis — built her name on a deep voice and an aggressive, uncompromising style that has drawn X comparisons since her breakout records “This Is New York” and “Glizzy Gobbler.” She writes her own raps and has made that a point of pride on every platform that hands her a mic, from freestyle stages to her 2024 XXL Freshman run.

What is new is the scale of the reaction. When a performance clip with no production behind it outruns full music videos, that says something about where her pen and presence are right now.

Watch the performance below and call it yourself: is “female DMX” a crown or a stretch?
