Akademiks Says You Can’t Compare NBA YoungBoy to Lil Baby: ‘YB Actually Sells Tickets’
Akademiks is tired of the comparison — and he brought receipts.
On stream, Ak said you can’t compare NBA YoungBoy to Lil Baby, because YoungBoy actually sells tickets when he goes on tour. His argument: Baby’s case lives on album charts and streaming; YB’s case is 552,000 human beings who paid to stand in an arena. Ak pointed to YoungBoy’s MASA Tour as one of the highest-grossing hip-hop tours of all time — and to YB sitting at No. 2 in total album sales for 2026, behind only Drake.
Here’s the thing: the paperwork backs most of it up. Touring Data’s final numbers on the MASA Tour: $70,012,731 grossed, 552,215 tickets sold, 42 out of 42 shows sold out — the highest-grossing tour by a debut headlining rapper in history, full stop. On the all-time hip-hop list it lands right at the door of the top 10 (10th to 12th depending on who’s counting), ahead of Travis Scott’s Astroworld run. And the 2026 sales table that dropped October 30 has Drake at 11.7 million units and YoungBoy second at 5.3 million — more than double most of the field — in the same year his Slime Cry album opened with 70,000 units, his biggest first week in over three years. Add 126 RIAA-certified titles, the most of any rapper ever, and Ak’s “different league” talk stops sounding like cap.
To be fair to Baby: his first-week résumé is elite — WHAM opened at 140–145K in 2025, The Voice of the Heroes did 150K, and the clip itself ran Baby’s numbers on screen while Ak talked. Nobody’s calling Lil Baby small. The real argument is about the metric: in 2026, what crowns the bigger artist — opening weeks and streams, or half a million tickets sold face-to-face?
Ak has picked his side. The numbers say he’s not just talking.
