Tyler Perry Named Co-Chair of Keisha Lance Bottoms’ Georgia Transition Team

Tyler Perry is taking a seat at the table as Georgia changes governors. Governor-elect Keisha Lance Bottoms has named the filmmaker and studio owner a co-chair of her transition team, the group charged with building her administration before she takes office in January.

Bottoms announced the team, called “Georgia’s Promise,” at a news conference at the Georgia State Capitol on Friday, November 6 — three days after she won the governor’s race. According to AllHipHop, which reported the appointment citing Variety, Perry joins the leadership group that will help the governor-elect review state agencies, recruit senior staff and turn campaign priorities into working plans for the opening months of the new administration. USA Today and FOX 5 Atlanta confirmed the appointment and the rest of the roster.

Perry is one of ten co-chairs. The others, per FOX 5 Atlanta’s report of the announcement, are Home Depot co-founder Arthur Blank, former Walgreens Boots Alliance CEO Roz Brewer, Carter Center board chair Jason Carter, affordable housing leader Carmen Chubb, Delta Air Lines executive Richard Cox, former state Rep. Jane Kidd, nonprofit leader Michelle Nunn, retired corporate executive Vicki Palmer and former Atlanta equity official Rashad Taylor. John King, who served as the City of Atlanta’s chief operating officer when Bottoms was mayor, will run the transition as its chief operating officer. Honorary co-chairs include Sen. Raphael Warnock, Sen. Jon Ossoff, former Sen. Sam Nunn, former Gov. Roy Barnes and former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young.

“Our transition will be called Georgia’s Promise because the work of keeping our promises to Georgians starts now, well before Inauguration Day,” Bottoms said at the announcement. She introduced Perry as “an entertainment mogul who is also a huge philanthropic part of our Georgia community and owns Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.”

The role is advisory. A transition co-chair helps a governor-elect test ideas, recruit leadership and set early priorities; it is not a permanent government position, and Bottoms did not announce specific duties for Perry. She said the team’s stated focus areas include affordability, health care and public education, with more co-chairs, policy leads and senior staff announcements expected in the coming weeks.

Perry’s place on the team reflects his footprint in the state. Tyler Perry Studios runs a major production campus in Atlanta and sits at the center of Georgia’s film and television economy. He and Bottoms also have a recent working history — Bottoms served as an executive producer on Perry’s 2025 Netflix series “Miss Governor,” per Parade’s report of the announcement.

Bottoms’ win carries a historic note as well: she becomes Georgia’s first Black governor and the first Black woman elected governor of any U.S. state.

Reporting on the appointment, including AllHipHop’s, has also noted that Perry faces civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and misconduct, allegations he has denied. The cases are civil proceedings, and no criminal charges have been reported in connection with them.
