Cory Gunz Takes It Back To The Golden Era With “96 Era”

The Bronx, talk to me. Cory Gunz is not chasing the moment — 96 Era, his album released October 2 through MILITIA Entertainment, is a full salute to the 1990s golden era, and Cory sounds right at home in it.

Cory Gunz — 96 Era

The mission statement is the lead track. “99 9’s” flips Jay-Z’s “22 Two’s” — and Cory did not cut corners: Ski Beatz, the same producer behind the original Reasonable Doubt record, produced the flip. The official video was filmed outside Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects. On first listen of the previews, that record is the centerpiece — a New York lineage play, executed by the people who built the original.

The album opens with “New York New York,” produced by Grammy-winning producer Nottz, and keeps the pen front and center from there. “Living Proof” pairs Cory with OT The Real, and the back half carries two records that already have their own momentum: the “WYFL Freestyle,” which has passed five million views and landed on Apple Music playlists including New in Hip-Hop, Viral Hip-Hop, BARS and The New New York, and “Kat & Brunson” featuring Shaquille O’Neal, first released in June for the Knicks’ championship run. Recent single “Bag” featuring Grafh sits in the same run of work.

And he is outside with it — on November 4, Cory taped an episode of Grafh’s new Members Only Show, performed live with the house band, and sat for an On The Spot segment.

The verdict: nine tracks, no wasted motion — a Bronx lyricist honoring the era that raised him, with the original architects in the room. Stream 96 Era on all platforms, and check the ITSBIZKIT first-listen carousel on Instagram — then tell us your top track.
