Yung Miami Gets Emotional Over JT And The City Girls Split: “I Cried Making ‘Dear JT'”

Yung Miami is not pretending the City Girls chapter closed clean. Clips from her release-week interviews are making the rounds again, and the part everybody keeps replaying is Miami getting emotional about JT — the friend she grew up with, built a group with, and has barely spoken to since their fallout went public in April 2024.

Sitting with Nessa on HOT 97 on October 23, the same day she released her debut solo album Watch Dis!, Miami admitted the album’s most talked-about record took something out of her. “I cried making ‘Dear JT,’ and I cried making ‘Ride for You,'” she said. The song is an open letter to JT, and Miami was clear it is a snapshot of right now, not a final verdict: “I’m never gonna forget what we started. This is how I feel right now. I don’t know how I feel next year.”

“Dear JT,” the album’s 19th track, pairs Miami with singer Tiffany Evans over a sample of Diana Ross’ “Missing You,” and it plays like the conversation the two never had. “Fallin’ out with my sister in public, so embarrassing,” she raps, before landing on the line fans keep quoting: “Sis, we could’ve made history.” It is not a diss record — it is a grief record, and Miami has said as much, telling The Breakfast Club the song came from a place of love: “Ain’t no hate in my heart.”

Maybe the most telling detail: JT heard the song when the rest of the world did. Asked by Nessa if she played it for her former partner before the release, Miami answered simply, “No” — and as of those interviews, JT had not responded. Miami says the door is not closed, though. “We don’t gotta be how we used to, but it don’t have to be a point to where we never speak again,” she said, adding that if the phone call ever happens, she will answer it.

The context is no secret. After City Girls’ 2023 album RAW underperformed, the two drifted into separate lanes, and their tension spilled onto social media in April 2024 in a public back-and-forth that effectively ended the group. Miami has since pointed to creative differences and the two being in different places in life. Two years later, she’s using her first solo album to say the quiet part out loud — she misses her sister, even if she doesn’t know what comes next.

Be honest — after “Dear JT,” can City Girls ever run it back, or is the sisterhood done for good? Let us know in the comments.
