Mona Love Apologizes To Cardi B On The Joe Budden Podcast: “It Makes Me Feel Horrible”

The Mona Love and Cardi B situation just got its closing chapter — or at least its apology. After days of backlash over her colorism comments, Mona called into The Joe Budden Podcast live, and her first words were an apology to Cardi.

“I apologize. I DM’d Cardi when she first said anything because I really didn’t think that she would be hurt or upset about it — that never was my intention,” Mona said. Hearing Cardi say Mona caused another round of dragging “makes me feel horrible,” she added — she wouldn’t wish that on anybody. She also admitted she didn’t know the clip she reacted to was edited, or that old: the 13 seconds she spoke on came from a 2024 Instagram Live that ran 15 minutes. “If I knew it was that old, it would have been a total different response from me.”

Quick rewind on how we got here. Mona — “Don’t Call Me White Girl” — argued on the podcast that colorism and Cardi’s light skin had a lot to do with how far she’s gotten and the brand deals she lands. Cardi answered with a long statement: she’s never denied colorism is real — she saw it herself working in the strip club — but her skin tone is not the only reason she made it. Cardi also revealed Mona had been in her DMs for years asking for personal, surgery and career advice, including how to get those same brand deals.

Joe Budden told Mona it was big of her to apologize, and that her words and her actions have to line up. He also made the bigger point: the colorism conversation could have happened without making Cardi the poster child for it. Mona says she and Cardi have already talked privately since — and by all accounts, the situation is cooling off.

So the apology is public, the private talk already happened, and the dragging is the part Mona says she feels worst about. The question the culture is asking stands: do you accept the apology — or does the “I didn’t do my research” part make it ring hollow? Sound off.
