Takeoff’s Murder Trial Was Set To Start Today — It’s Now Pushed To April 2027

Four years after Takeoff was killed in Houston, the trial that was supposed to start today isn’t starting at all.

Jury selection in the murder trial of Patrick Xavier Clark was set to begin Thursday (November 5) in Harris County, with opening statements expected November 9. Instead, court records now set the trial for April 15, 2027 — nearly five more months of waiting in a case that has already stretched past the fourth anniversary of Takeoff’s death on November 1, 2022.

Clark’s new attorney, Kent Schaffer, explained the delay in a statement to XXL: “Both sides had numerous trial conflicts, and the state recently turned over a large amount of evidence that had not been seen by Mr. Clark’s previous counsel. While there is nothing harmful in that evidence, we still need time to review it. We still fully expect to prevail.”

Clark rebuilt his defense in March, replacing attorney Letitia Quinones-Hollins with Schaffer, Dan Cogdell and Anthony Osso. In September, the new team asked the court for permission to have its own expert independently test the bullets and other evidence held by Houston police.

Prosecutors allege surveillance video shows Clark firing toward a group of people outside 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston, where Takeoff was attending a private gathering with Quavo, and say Clark’s fingerprints were recovered from a wine bottle near the scene. Clark, arrested in December 2022, has pleaded not guilty, remains free on a $1 million bond, and faces life in prison if convicted.

For the Migos family and fans, the math is brutal: a murder from November 2022 now won’t see a jury until April 2027 — four and a half years later. Long live Takeoff.
